Filler Injection
"Filler" is to the cosmetic surgeons as putty is to a carpenter. Fillers are mainly used to enlarge nose, chin, cheeks, forehead, lips and fill in wrinkles and folds. The first filler to be widely used was bovine collagen derived from cow hide. Now we have fillers which are extremely safe and last almost an ideal amount of time. Dr. Prinya continues to refuse to use permanent fillers such as silicone and semi-permanent ones such as Radiesse and Sculptra as they are not compatible enough with the immune system and their permanency in the face will likely pose problems many years later. Restylane was the first safe filler developed. In February of 2007, Juvederm was FDA approved. Dr. Prinya now only uses Juvederm Voluma because this filler clearly lasts much longer for 1.5-2 years and is much less likely to cause lumpiness and unwanted swelling afterwards. Also, the procedure is so quick, no anesthetic injections around the mouth are needed. Instead, he uses nothing more than anesthetic cream and ice.
Are nose fillers painful?
In general, the procedure is not painful. After the application of the topical numbing cream, you should not feel too much discomfort and the procedure has been described as tolerable.
For nose fillers, there isn’t any immediate downtime after the procedure and patients can expect to return to action with about an hour’s rest. Some patients report feeling some mild discomfort and sometimes post-operative bruising and swelling is expected. However, within 24 hours, most negative effects will have subsided.
Chin fillers
Chin fillers refer to hyaluronic acid injections that are used to alter the shape and appearance of the chin. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body and is the main component of what gives your skin tissue its volume.
In general, the goal of chin fillers is to create a longer, more distinctive looking jowl. Chin fillers can help to correct receding chins and also help patients achieve an aesthetically pleasing V-shaped jawline.
Are chin fillers painful? Is there any downtime?
With the application of the topical numbing cream, receiving chin fillers have been described to be tolerable by most patients.
The procedure is safe and has few side effects. Patients might experience slight pain, swelling and bruising around the injection sites, but these effects are generally temporary.
There isn’t any long downtime associated with chin fillers. Patients are allowed to resume daily activities immediately after the procedure. Patients are generally advised against doing any vigorous sports or sweating too much for a few days to avoid any complications.
Can chin fillers be reversed?
Chin fillers procedure is a reversible procedure. If a patient isn’t satisfied with the overall outcome and change to their face shape, they have the option of getting the procedure reversed. An enzyme known as hyaluronidase will be applied to the treated area. This will act to dissolve the hyaluronic acid within the tissue safely.
How long do the effects of chin fillers last?
Unlike some surgical procedures, the effects of chin fillers are not permanent. The results of chin fillers are generally temporary and last only as long as the hyaluronic acid remains in the tissue. Once the fillers dissolve, the chin returns to its normal shape. This usually takes between 1-2 years. The time it takes for fillers to return to normal may vary from individual to individual.
Briefly, Juvederm is superb at treating the naso-labial folds or so-called "parenthesis" lines around the sides of the mouth, as well as the frown lines above the nose. Juvederm is the best "volumizing" filler, i.e. it is the best filler at large wide areas such as gaunt cheeks (as seen in thinner individuals) or hollow areas on the chin under the corners of the mouth (as seen in most older women). Juvederm can occasionally cause harmless lumps than can be treated with a few drops of injected Hyaluronidase enzyme. Juvederm filler lasts about 1.5-2 year and are extremely safe.
